Read the passage

1. My school

It’s the first day of the new term. Helen and her classmates are back at school. They are happy to see each other again. There’s a new building in the school. It has a lot of rooms. There’re twenty-four classroomstwo reading rooms and some computer rooms in it. Near the Music room, there’s a table tennis room, they can play table tennis in it after school.

 

2. A new house

Yang Ling and her parents live in a new house. It’s near her school. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study, a kitchen, a dining-room and a large sitting-room. But there isn’t a garden. In her bedroom, there’s a desk beside the bed, and there are some dolls on the bed. They like the new house very much.

 

3. Halloween

It is Halloween tomorrow. Ben and his family would like to have a party. They want to buy some things for the party. They need some chocolate, some flowers and a vase. Ben likes lanterns and his brother Ron likes masks. So they also buy some masks and a pumpkin lantern in the shop.

 

4. My family

Hello, my name is Jane. I have a sister, Jenny. My father is a doctor and my mother is a nurse. They work from Monday to Friday. My father likes swimming on Saturdays. My mother likes going shopping on Sundays. They like playing table tennis, but Jenny and I don’t. We like listening to music very much. In the evening we like taking a walk. Sometimes we watch TV. We are very happy.

 

5. Doing housework

It is Sunday morning. Su Hai and Su Yang are doing housework at home. Su Hai is sweeping the floor and Su Yang is cleaning the windows. They work very hard. Nancy is doing her homework. She needs help with her Maths. So she calls Su Hai. Su Hai will help her this afternoon.

6. After school

It is three o’clock in the afternoon. Classes are over. The students are doing their things. Gao Shan is looking for Wang Bing. He wants to play with him. But Wang Bing isn’t at the teachers’ office. He is playing basketball in the playground. Su Hai and Su Yang are helping the teacher to clean the library. Some girls are reading books. Some boys are playing chess. They are all happy.

 

7. A camping trip

The students and their teachers are near the hill now. They are at a camping site. They are showing their things to each other. Liu Tao has a big tent. David has a chair. Nancy has a tent and a chair. She is sitting near her tent now. Helen has a tin of chicken and a tin of fish. Yang Ling has a tin-opener. Mike has a pot and a stove. Su Hai and Su Yang have two blankets and a telescope. Miss Li has a box of chocalates and Mr Green has some fruit. They are very happy.

 

8. My toys

I have some toys. They are in my room. Look! This is my dog. It has long hair. It can jump and run. My toy cat is black and white. It has big eyes. There’s a monkey. It can jump. It has a big mouth. I like my toys.

 

Make a dialogue

1. What’s in the room / school / park?

A: Look, there’s a new park over there.

B: Oh, that’s great. What’s in the park?

A: There’s a lake, many beautiful tress and flowers in it.

B: Are there any swings in the park?

A: Yes, there are.

B: How many swings are there?

A: Of course, there is.

B: Let’s go and play.

A: Good idea.

5. What do you have?

A: Hello, Liu Tao. Let’s go camping tomorrow.

B: Great!

A: I have a telescope. What do you have?

B: I have a camera and a kite. Do you like flying kites?

A: Yes, I do. Nancy has a violin. She can play the violin and we can sing.

B: Sounds good. What does Mike have?

A: He has some puzzles. We can do the puzzles too.

B: What do Su Hai and Su Yang have?

A: They have a big tent.

B: Good, we can have a rest there.

 

6. Go camping

Today is Sunday. It is a fine day. The children are at a camping site. They are showing their things to each other.

A: What do you have, Mike?

B: I have some fruit and a bar of chocolate. How about you , Helen?

A: I have a tin of chicken. But I can’t open it.

B: Look! Yang Ling has a tin-opener. Let’s use it.

A: Ben is coming. He has a big kite.

B: What a nice kite!

A: Where are Su Hai and Su Yang?

B: Look! They are reading picture books over there. They take some pictures books with them.

A: I like picture books , too. Let’s go and join them.

B: All right.

7. What shape is it?

A: Mum, let’s go shopping!

B: What do you need?

A: I’d like a nice box.

B: What shape would you like?

A: A circle box.

B: Let’s go and see.

A: Look! What’s that over there?

B: It’s a clock.

8. Make a card

A: Teachers’ Day is coming.

A: Don’t worry. I’ll show you. Draw a candle and some flowers on the paper first.

B: And then write ‘ Happy Teachers’ Day’on it.

A: Don’t forget to write ‘Dear Jenny’.

B: All right.

I have many presents. They are nice and lovely. And my favourite present is a white bike. It’s my tenth birthday present. It’s from my parents. I always go to school by bike. Sometimes I go to buy something for my mother by bike. I also can ride my bike to my grandparents’. Every Sunday morning my father and I go to the park by bike. It’s interesting. I love my bike. It’s my good friend.

I have a small but clean bedroom. There is a nice bed in it. On the bed, there are many toys. They are very beautiful and lovely. I like them very much. Near my bed, there is a desk. I often read books at my desk. There are two pictures on the wall. They are my birthday presents. I like my bedroom.

My name is Tom. I’m twelve years old. I live in Changzhou. I am a student at JuQianJie Primary School. My family is not big. There are only three of us: my father, my mother and me. We live in an old house. Near our house, there are many trees and flowers in a garden. My father likes watching TV , playing chess and sleeping. My mother likes growing flowers and listening to music. So I like listening to music. I also like reading and playing games. I love my family.

I have some toys. They are in my bedroom. Look! This is my dog. It has a small nose and short hair. It can jump and run. My toy cat is black and white. It has big eyes and a big mouth. 5. Introduce myself

Hello, everyone. My name is XXX. I’m a Chinese girl/boy. I’m 11 years old. I study at Juqianjie Primary School. I’m in Class 1, Grade 5. I’m tall and thin. I have big eyes and long hair. I like sports and I can swim well. I like reading books, too. I often read books in my study. I have some friends in my class. Sometimes I go to parks with my friends at the weekends.

 

6. My best friend

I have a good friend. She studies at Juqianjie Primary School. She’s 11 years old. She’s a girl with long hair. Her eyes are big. She’s tall and thin. She likes playing the piano and she can play it very well. Her English is very good. She often helps me with my English. We often go home together after school.
